Couture Colorado

Notes from the Bride, Geri:

Our wedding inspiration was our friends, family, and everything Colorado. We recently moved to Colorado together, and wanted a wedding destination that would allow us to share our love of Colorado with our guests. Once we set eyes on Devils Thumb Ranch, everything else just seemed to fall into place. From the second we walked through the big wooden doors, leaned back in the comfy lounge chairs and warmed our hands next to the crackling fireplace, we knew this would be the place for us. DTR exemplified our love of the outdoors, respect for the environment, and appreciation for rustic chic simplicity. We chose to highlight rather than compete with the beauty of the high beam ceilings and reclaimed wood within the Broad Axe Barn. We selected centerpieces based on a natural color theme of greens, deep purples, and browns and chose arrangements with herbs and sustainable flowers that would survive long past our wedding day. The centerpieces were accented with tall branch-like arrangements to help bring a little bit of the outside in., and framed with candlelight to accentuate the warmth of the surroundings. Finally, we both love music, and our live band and soulful vocalists pulled it all together. We savored every moment of our big day: I was never one of those girls who dreamed about their fairy tale wedding, but if I had known what I was missing, I certainly would have been. We danced the night away with our closest friends and family (we had a small wedding with fewer than 90 people). Wedding highlights were Michaels handwritten vows that brought tears to both of our eyes (although he still insists he had something in his eye), our wedding party walking into Hecks and receiving a standing ovation from the dinner guests, dancing with my father who revealed some exceptional hip action with some sweet dance moves I didnt know he had in him, and Mike and I dancing in each others arms in the snow. One element of the wedding that our guests found particularly special was the moment the barn doors were opened, signaling the start of the ceremony. All of the guests had gathered and were seated facing the barn doors, until the breath-taking moment when the doors were pulled open, revealing the picturesque mountainscape of Tabernash, speckled with slowly falling snowflakes - providing the perfect backdrop for Mike and me to exchange our vows. Our superhero cake topper was also very popular. The metallic female superhero had a large heart welded to her chest particularly fitting for me, as I have devoted my life to animals and their hearts (I am a veterinary cardiologist). The male superhero was wielding a laser gun, symbolic of Mike both because he is known by close friends as the Superman, as well as ability to fix just about everything. It was such a wonderful celebration of not only our love, but the love of everyone in our lives, and I wish we could do it over and over again!
